The Aldarra Foundation is committed to supporting organizations that strengthen the enduring fabric of the Puget Sound region: science education, advancements in healthcare, preservation of natural beauty, and compassion for animals.
The Aldarra Foundation Story
The story of the Aldarra Foundation is centered around a commitment and desire to build upon the unique strengths of the Puget Sound community.
Lifelong residents of Seattle, the Aldarra Foundation founders, William E. Boeing, Jr., and June A. Boeing, devoted their time and resources to enhancing and enriching the quality of life in the Puget Sound through the work of organizations with whom they had long-term relationships.
William Boeing, Jr. shared his family’s passion for aviation. He had a deep affinity for programs to educate and preserve the aeronautical history of the Puget Sound through the work of The Museum of Flight. He was always delighted and proud when the Museum’s immersive aviation and science education programs sparked in young people the same enthusiasm and love for flight that defined his lifetime. His work to preserve aeronautical history included the restoration and relocation of The Red Barn®, the birthplace of aviation in the Puget Sound region, to its present site at The Museum of Flight. Mr. Boeing, Jr. understood the significance of The Museum of Flight to preserve aviation accomplishments and education for future generations.
William E. Boeing, Jr. and June A. Boeing’s long-term support left an indelible mark on Seattle Children’s Hospital. The Aldarra Foundation’s early investment in the pediatric cancer immunotherapy program at Seattle Children’s Hospital has been transformational in advancing treatment. Perhaps closest to their hearts was the strong compassionate community created by cancer families and caregivers. William E. Boeing Jr. and June A. Boeing created two outdoor garden spaces for patients, families, and caregivers to enjoy.
A lover of animals and gardening, June A. Boeing was actively involved in efforts to advance animal welfare and improve the public garden spaces in Seattle. June was passionately involved in the preservation of the Washington Park Arboretum, a nearly 100-year-old botanical garden on the shores of Lake Washington. William and June enjoyed taking walks together through the gardens with their lifelong companion, their dog El Toro Poco.
Described as private, thoughtful, and innovative individuals, these are characteristics the Aldarra Foundation mirrors. Since the foundation started in 2003, we have been determined to have a quiet, meaningful impact in the community. Operating as a limited life foundation, our grants are bold and significant. We are committed to carrying out the intentions of the founders by making the Puget Sound region a better place to live.
The Aldarra Foundation awards grants to pre-selected organizations in health and human services, education, animal welfare and environmental stewardship. The Aldarra Foundation intends to close its doors and award final grants in 2025. Led by the intentions of our founders, the Aldarra Foundation grantees have been selected and the Foundation is not accepting unsolicited grant requests.
